Visiting Scholar Program

Berkeley Lab's International Energy Studies Group Visiting Scholar Program hosts professionals, scholars, and researchers from around the world to work on topics related to energy and energy efficiency.

Visiting scholars work on-site and enjoy access to the intellectual resources of LBNL to further their research and contribute to ongoing or emerging areas of research.

IES is particularly interested in welcoming researchers who focus on the following topics:

  • Electrification of the industry and/or transport sector
  • Supply-chain transformation for efficiency
  • Deep decarbonization of the economy
  • Smart infrastructure
  • Behavioral and technology adoption
  • Dynamics of clean energy technologies and policies
  • Innovative financing and program design for clean energy
  • Innovation in thermal comfort

The goal of the IES Visiting Scholar Program is to build capacity in the understanding and management of energy demand and create a network of researchers who focus on solutions to enhance sustainable development.

In 2018, as part of Berkeley Lab's mission to bring science to the world, the Energy Technologies Area hosted three visiting scientists through the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs TechWomen program. The goal of this program is to empower, connect and support the next generation of women leaders in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by providing them access and opportunity to advance their careers, pursue their dreams, and become role models for women and girls. Through this program, Berkeley Lab mentored a total of six TechWomen Lab-wide (read more).
