SEAD Program Analysis
SEAD is a government-led, public-private /global market transformation initiative/ for super-efficient equipment and appliances and was announced by the US Energy Secretary Steve Chu in December, 2009 in Copenhagen. Representatives form major economies will discuss collaboration on this initiative at the Clean Energy Ministerial meeting that will be held on July 19-20th in Washington DC. It is proposed that SEAD partners will work together to “pull” super-efficient appliances and other equipment into the market by cooperating on measures like financial incentives incentives and R&D investments. At the same time, partners will “push” the most inefficient equipment out of the market by working together to bolster national or regional policies like minimum efficiency standards. LBNL is providing technical support to US DOE on SEAD.
