IPCC Support

IES's continues analytical support for the Nobel Peace Prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The IPCC was established by WMO and UNEP to assess scientific, technical and socio- economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts and options for adaptation and mitigation.

As members of Working Group III, IESG staff researches and writes about the report topics as well as attending meetings and giving presentations on the work, emphasizing the analysis of end-use energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. IES staff attends and makes presentations as requested at the Climate Change Convention negotiating sessions on the findings of the IPCC reports.

WG III focuses primarily on:

  • Technologies, costs and potential
  • Near-term and long-term tradeoffs

Some of the early publications resulting from this work can be found at the IPCC WG III website
